Jesus and the Animals
At the time of Jesus of Nazareth, Jews who, for example, did not want to celebrate the ritual eating of a lamb at Passover were threatened with the death penalty. Ultimately, according to the apocryphal writings, Jesus’ very refusal to eat a lamb at Passover became his death sentence. It is therefore not surprising, indeed, quite understandable, that Jesus’ statements about the love of animals and a meatless diet could not be included in the writings that still form the basis of the New Testament of the biblical writings today. But there are ancient writings that report on Jesus of Nazareth’s love of animals.
